Functional Medicine
“The goal of functional medicine is to elevate wellness within an individual to a point that illness and disease simply cannot flourish.”— Dr. Tom Sult
Functional medicine determines and restores health by addressing the root causes of disease for each individual.
The functional medicine model is an individualized, patient-centered, science-based approach that empowers patients and practitioners to engage in a working relationship to address the underlying causes of disease in order to determine how and why illness is occurring. It requires a detailed understanding of each patient’s genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors that leads to personalized treatment plans in order to optimize individual patient health & outcomes.
A single condition may have many different causes and, likewise, one cause may result in many different conditions. As a result, functional medicine treatment targets the specific manifestations of disease in each individual by looking at genetic predisposition, environmental exposures, nutritional status, gut & microbiome health, hormone health, relationships, stress, life experiences, sleep quality and patterns and movement.
